Because the Bible teaches that “two are better than one” (Eccl. 4:9), First Baptist Evergreen voluntarily chooses to affiliate itself with other like-minded congregations in order to multiply its effectiveness in making disciples of all nations. With a global population exceeding six billion and a command to take the gospel to every nation, we must enhance our cooperative efforts if we are going to fulfill Christ’s command. Specifically, we are affiliated with the following groups in local, national and international mission efforts:

  • The Mile High Baptist Association Ninety-nine churches and missions that fellowship together and work together to reach Metropolitan Denver

  • Colorado Baptist General Convention Three hundred and thirty churches and missions that fellowship together with the goal of evangelizing our state.

  • The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) – A fellowship of more than 16.3 million members in approximately 43,500 churches in all 50 states and Canada.  These churches work together through approximately 1,191 associations and 41 state conventions to engage in a worldwide effort of missions.

What is the Southern Baptist Convention?

  • It is the largest association of Christian churches in Colorado and America. One out of every 10 churches in America is affiliated with the SBC. (over 40,000 churches and missions and over 15 million membersmore than most other denominations combined.)

  • It is the most diverse association of churches. SBC churches include every race, nationality, and ethnic group. Each Sunday, services are held in over 80 languages in the United States.

Why not just be an independent church?

  • We are an independent church! Every SBC church is completely independent.  There is no denominational control or hierarchy, as there is in most other denominations.

  • Each church is self-governed (autonomous) and determines its own affairs. For example:

  •

  • 1.  Every SBC church chooses its own pastor.

  • 2.  Every SBC church owns its own buildings and assets.

  • 3.  Every SBC church determines its own ministries and programs

What are the advantages of affiliating with the SBC?

It allows us to identify with other Christians around the world who are known for their commitment to the Bible. While the SBC has no man-made “creed,” historically we have been a denomination that is unified around a confessional statement known as the Baptist Faith and Message. Ultimately, the Bible, honestly and properly interpreted, is our only authority.

·         It allows our church to participate in the largest missionary organization in the world. We participate in a cooperative mission effort that sponsors about 5,000 North American missionaries and 5,300 international missionaries in 126 nations.
